What Is the Croatia Digital Nomad Visa?
The legal route is temporary stay for digital nomads. The distinction matters because a person who needs a visa to enter Croatia may still need a separate long-stay D visa after temporary stay is approved.
MUP defines a digital nomad as a third-country national who works through communication technology for a company outside Croatia, or through their own company that is not registered in Croatia. The holder must not work for or provide services to Croatian employers.

€3,622.50 Income Requirement in 2026
MUP currently requires digital-nomad applicants to show means of subsistence equal to at least 2.5 times Croatia’s average monthly net wage for the previous year.
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics reported an average monthly net wage of €1,449 for 2025. That produces the current monthly threshold of €3,622.50.

You Do Not Necessarily Need a €3,622.50 Salary
This is a means-of-subsistence requirement, not simply a salary rule. MUP currently accepts several forms of financial evidence:
- a bank statement showing the full amount needed for the intended stay;
- a bank statement showing regular monthly income at the required level; or
- payslips for at least the previous six months showing the required monthly amount.
MUP instructs applicants to label these financial documents clearly and submit them as PDF files, with a maximum file size of 2 MB for the relevant uploads.

Choose the requested stay length carefully. The authority can grant a shorter period than the maximum, and your financial evidence should support the period you actually request.
Financial Proof for Family Members
For each additional qualifying family member, life partner or informal life partner, MUP increases the required monthly amount by 10% of the previous year’s average monthly net wage. Using the 2025 average of €1,449, that is an additional €144.90 per month per qualifying person.
A principal applicant plus one qualifying family member would therefore have a monthly means-of-subsistence figure of €3,767.40. This only addresses the financial calculation. Family-reunification eligibility and documentation are separate issues. MUP states that a family-reunification application filed before the principal digital nomad has been granted temporary stay will be rejected.
How Long Can You Stay?
Temporary stay for digital nomads may be granted for up to 18 months. If the initial grant is shorter than 18 months, MUP allows an extension application to be filed no later than 60 days before expiry. MUP currently states that the extension itself may be granted for a maximum of 6 months.
MUP also states that a new digital-nomad application can generally be submitted only after a six-month gap following expiry of the relevant previous temporary stay.
Do not plan Croatia as if the digital-nomad status were an indefinitely renewable residence route. Build your housing, tax, banking and onward-travel plan around the period actually granted.

If You Require a Visa to Enter Croatia
MUP states that visa-required applicants should submit the temporary-stay application through a Croatian diplomatic mission or consular office. After approval, the applicant generally needs a long-stay D visa unless an applicable exception applies.
If you are in Croatia on a short-stay Schengen C visa and apply online, the pending application does not itself give you the right to remain after your permitted short-stay period ends.
If You Do Not Require a Visa to Enter Croatia
Visa-exempt third-country nationals may apply through a Croatian mission or consulate. MUP also allows an in-person application at the competent Croatian police administration or police station while the applicant is lawfully in Croatia.

After Approval: Do Not Miss the Address Deadlines
This is one part of the process where the official page contains two timing rules that should be read together.
Permit-validity deadline: MUP states that third-country nationals must register their temporary residence address within 30 days from the start of validity of the granted temporary stay, or within six months from the start of validity where a long-stay D visa is required.
Arrival deadline: MUP separately states that, upon arrival in Croatia, the temporary residence address must be registered with the competent police administration/station within 3 days of entry.
